Year 13 - Holding camps

Watch the clip below where athletes talk about their experiences and benefits of the holding camp they are in for the Athletics World Championships (the first 2 mins are the most relevant)
Then go to Sweet Search and look for information under the search 'Athletics Holding Camps'
Work through a few articles before devising your list of the most important benefits of a holding camp for an athlete.

Along with compiling the list in your notes I want you to click on the following link:
 Holding Camps Corkboard
Add notes to be able to have a full comment bank of the benefits in the short term to performers.

Keep the most beneficial articles for your folders.

Year 13 students - past papers

I hope you have all had a relaxing break, please find some past papers below that you will find useful for revision purposes which should now be starting to take shape.

They are not in the same format, however there are still questions from the paper you can use based on the current specification.

Year 12 students - important coursework information

I hope that you are having a restful break.

You will receive an email today with your detailed feedback for all areas of 2.1 and 2.4 that you have included on the memory stick.  Please read the feedback carefully and apply any areas for improvement.

I could not find any of your intorductions and final evaluations of your training analysis, a reminder that the final evaluation must include your 2nd notation and your re-tests.

A reminder that I recommend that you email me a draft of your strengths and weaknesses document before the end of the holidays.  I will be travelling on the final Thursday and Friday of the holidays.
You must be continuing to get on with your video editing for 2.1 performance and coaching ( I cannot stress enough how important these videos are), gathering of 2.1 evidence (testimonys, match reports, fixture lists etc.), completing the feedback given on your email.

There will not be much time in lessons dedicated to this so you need to be proactive in your spare time.
You will be given the final date for submission when we return.

Finally, ensure all your work is in the correct format to enable the burning of your work to CDs to be as pain free as possible.  This should be found below.

Email me if you have any queries.

Year 12 students - theory and coursework reminders

I am on the GCSE moderation during our next lesson.  We need to do some work on the last elements of theory with me.
You should remember the definitions of health, exercise and fitness from your GCSE PE course.  Refresh your memory on these definitions and then complete the following tasks in your books:
  • Make notes on 'the rate of fat loss'
  • Define Basal Metabolic Rate
  • What is the link between BMR & weight / fat loss?
  • What factors are involved in the raising or lowering of BMR?
  • Consider reasons for the above.
A reminder that your training analysis evaluation and your full notation work  - below, on Thursday.
(first notation on yourself and evaluation, elite performer notation and evaluation, comparision of elite performer to yourself, your second notation and evaluation, final evaluation comparing how you have improved between your two notations)

I have only been copied into one email with regards the requests for your coaches to complete the testimony on yourself.  Conor and Kenny, you need to send yours.

You will have your overall feedback on all elements of 2.4 emailed to you by the end of Thursday.

Remember, i recommend that you send me drafts of your strengths and weaknesses a couple of times over the holidays.
