Please complete the following work during my absence:


  • Log onto audioboom.com, you should have the log in details, if not they are on my desk.  Complete a podcast on the four categories of ergogenic aids you have looked at.  Consider the following:
  • Performance enhancing effects
  • Legality
  • Performers likely to use it
    • Remember this is the short term technical so we should not be looking at items such as blood doping or anabolic steroids

  • Read through the links below on preparation and holding camps, make notes on the benefits and reasons athletes may consider these camps at different points of their preparation.
  • Do a comparison table between holding and preparation camps
  • Design a suitable holding camp location for Great Britain athletes at the Rio 2016 games and the London 2017 world athletics championships.  For the athletics you may want to consider the camps used by various teams for the 2012 games.
  • Ensure you justify your choice of location with relevant theory aspects.

1)  Justify the reasons why creatine loading is not an illegal practice in sport. In your answer you need to refer to:

2)  Outline the structure a novice distance runner would have to follow to ensure they complete a full carbohydrate loading programme.

In the build up to any major global event (Olympics, World Cup etc.) performers will receive support from the different specialists you identified in your last lesson.

This support will take place during general training but also during specialist training camps and holding camps in preparation for the competition.

Discuss the relevant benefits of training camps and holding camps in the preparation for global games.
Use contemporary examples of teams / individuals using such camps to prepare (you may want to use sweet search for this).
Use your discussion to consider the physiological, psychological and technical reasons for utilizing the camps.

Athletes receive lots of different levels of support, from Physiologists, Psychologists and Biomechanists.
You need to understand the support offered by various groups of people to performers.
How technological development has improved performance (Prozone, Dartfish, Biomechanical analysis of technique). Or, reduced performance (Javelin case study on page 171).
Research the following roles: 
  • Exercise Physiologist, 
  • Sports Psychiatrist, 
  • Nutritionist, 
  • Sports vision specialist, 
  • Biomechanist
  • Podiatrist.

Look at how elite athletes can benefit from these support systems
