Reminders

To both year 12 & 13. I hope you hav had relaxing break whilst also getting a good amount of work done. As we get ready for one last push before the study leave I wanted to give a couple of reminders.

Year 12:
  • The coursework support session is on tomorrow (Saturday) 3 - 5pm.  You do not need to stay until 5pm if you do not want to, if you only have a couple of questions and want to clarify a couple of points and then leave that id fine.  The aim is for you to be able to ask any specific questions ahead of the final hand in.  Come with any specific questions you may have on any of the elements.  Your video editing should be 99% done by now.
  •  Remember to hand in the different pieces of work you were set before the holiday, especially the research on your designated countries.
Year 13:
  • Exam question in exam conditions on Sunday
  • Full mock exam the following week
  • Revision in the other lessons of the week
  • If during your revision prep and work over the holidays you have come across any particular question, write them down and hand them in on Sunday.  If there are any reoccuring themes i will address thosei the lessons and in revision tasks.

Please look at some of the old specification papers I have put in below.
They are not in the same format, however there are still questions from the paper you can use based on the current specification.

Year 12 Students

This task will need to be completed after we have gone through work on health, fitness & exercise in this Thursdays lesson:

  • Make notes on 'the rate of fat loss'
  • Define Basal Metabolic Rate
  • What is the link between BMR & weight / fat loss?
  • What factors are involved in the raising or lowering of BMR?
  • Consider reasons for the above.

Year 12 Students

Along with completing any improvements on the 2.1 & 2.4 work over the holidays, you have the following task to complete:

The countries you have been assigned to research are the following:
Saif - USA & Japan
A-L - UK & Finland
Lisa - Japan & UK
Conor - Finland & USA
Freddie - USA & Japan
Bami - UK & Finland
Reyhaan - Finland & Japan

You can obviously work with your peers who are looking into the same country.

You must submit your two pieces of work into your 'shared resources' folder through Dropbox.
I will then share the other countries between all of you so you will have research from all 4 countries to reference for your revision.

Year 13 students

As day two of the GCSE practicals are going on tomorrow I need you to complete the following pieces of work:
  • Research the Athlete Career and Education Programme (ACE) for Australian athletes
  • Watch this clip - AIS in Canberra - and note any additional information you had not picked up in your previous research.
  • For Australia, East Germany & USA draw up seperate flow diagrams showing the stages an athlete goes through to reach the elite level in each of the countries
  • From that, draw up a discussion piece that compares what has been taken / modified from one country and used in another system.  Has the strategy that was taken been adapted successfully?
So on Thursday you are to bring with you the work I have listed above along with:
  • Overview of the AIS
  • The research you found on the Super Roo bike (I am not expecting this to be a copy and pasted article from a website)
  • The questions I gave you on the USA system.
If you encounter any issues please see me before Thursday

Please do some research on the structure of the AIS, you can find a web link on the right hand side of this page.

Then look into the 'Super Roo bike', research how it was developed in conjunction with the AIS.
